Civil War at KWC

Civil War Erupts at KWC

Druchii take on Druchii, Ogres turn on each other and DoC descend on the Denizens of Athel Loren
Good night's gaming last night. Got there late as I was on call. Actually was not intending to go, but when I arrived home after 7 pm the Aspiring Champion of our house was ready to go, Ogres all packed.

Gulped down me tea, grabbed the closest prepared list without really looking at it, threw all the Druchii in the car; and set off down the Road to Paraparaumu to join the fray, stopping briefly for a hot chocolate.

By the time we got there everyone was already engrossed in games. All sorts going down: Wood Elves taking on Chaos Demos at Rex and Dave's table, Nick havin' a game of Memoirs 1944 with one of the junior players, and likewise Sam having a game of Magic. Jack and Jayden had a 40K clash of Necrons vs alternate Imperial Guard (In this case, the British Empire) Just love those Red Jacket figures, Hayden!

Anyhow Sam eventally emerged from his Magic card game, and then Civil war broke out between his ogres and Luc's!

The unlikely watchtower scenario.. as if Ogres cared about things like that. Anyhow, king of the castle, or the maw, or wathever... I think Sam triumphed in the end, getting control of the tower and holding it.

Nick brought up his Druchii and a pitched battle followed with my Cold-one bus vs his mobile strike force with a hammer of executioners. Good use of terrain and outflanking with fast moving cavalry saw him negate my punching power, and forcing me to engage my Corsairs against his Dreadlord- wasn't going to end pretty, low borns taking on a high born on a pegasus, buffed to the teeth, and out of reach of the BSB and Generals sphere of influence...

Pretty much a draw, and time limited, as we only started around 9, and Nick had to be in time for the last train home. He did succeed in routing and killing my Lvl 4 Sorceress, who sat in a the bunker of Corsairs/ May put her in the Cold-one bus next time, rather than the Lvl 1. Interesting to see an assassin deployed too, did a wee bit of damage. I've always questioned the amount of points invested in them vs possible gain.

I believe the DoC triumphed over the Denizens of Athel Loren. Had an interesting discussion about the value of taking a Soul grinder (or not) as artillery with Dave.

WIP Progress reports

Dark Barque and Matincore, Dragonet comin' along....

OK, I have been pretty lax with the progress reports. Been doing a lot of basing and building on my Dark Elf Army, when I was getting ready for NZTC. D-day preparations have taken over big-time though, (Kapiti Wargames Club having an open day 10 May 2014, and I'm refighting the Sword Beach landings) and I'm furiously working on my 20mm WW2 armies and terrain at the moment. Got side-tracked to post on WW1 though, and SA's experience at Delville Wood, effectively SA's Gallipoli.

Alternative Sisters of Slaughter are now done, converted from Dark Eldar Wyches. I'm happy with the end result. Got a few compliments at NZTC.

Did not going to run them at NZTC though. Ran the B*tch bus with two Hydras. Didn't have enough points to give them breath weapons, which, in retrospect was a mistake. Using that on trolls to negate regen or empire mounts could have been useful.

Either way, the Matincore is progressing pretty well, but I need to find a Beastmaster or Dreadlord to ride the beastie. Same for the Dragonet. Using a standard sorceress for Morathi as an alternate Pegasus. The look of the army is coming together nicely now...

Nice action shot of my Morathi bravely (or foolishly) taking on a Daemon Prince

2 x Sea-blue Hydras, Matincore and Morathi on a Dragonet, Black Dragon now also highlighted w sea-blue (hawk turquoise, or whatever it is called now days, tints/shades) Warlocks coming along nicely with washes in same livery. They did do some damage at NZTC. Poisoned attacks and that nasty Doombolt spell.

Also steadily and slowly working on the Empire, with my Parrot riders now nearing completion. I have no idea why these models seem to be such an effort to work on. Liked John Murrie's Demigriff paint job for his mate Reagan. Went up against them at NZTC.

The Forgeworld Demigryffs were such a pleasure! I have to admit that I keen getting side-tracked by Dark Elves and Daemons and WoC.

So now I have on my workbench: Scourgerunner, and the new Cauldron/Medusa kit. Liking the latter a lot. Will keep my old Altar and cauldron, and likely build this one as Medusa or possibly try and magnetise to make an interchangable multi-use model. Have also considered Altering the Dark Barque to accept the Medusa...

And then GW brings out a Dwarf book...

NZTC 2014 - My Dark Elf Experience (or lack of)

NZTC 2014 - My experience this year

Playing in my second to last game of the tournament:
This photo nicely  summarises my experience in NZTC 2014.

Up against the strong beasties, hard players, part of a team that valiantly fought, but lacked the overall punch ito list strength when taking on the big boys with tournament honed lists.
All of us lacking tournament experience.

I ran my Dark Witch Elf B*tch bus, (much against my better judgement, but encouraged by Nick (no-one wants to face the witches) Jebson. Took 'em for fun anyway, but probably should have gone w the more competitive Cold One Bus.

So I arrived with Morathi and a Death Hag on the Cauldron, 2 Hydras, 4 Repeater Bolt Throwers, a Lvl 2 on a cold one, 2 units of 11 Xbowmen (Darkshards, as they are now known), 2x 5 shades and Doodfire Warlocks x5. Dark Magic on Lvl 2, and Morthi choosing from the three lores as she is want to do. I retrospect I should have taken breath weapons on the Hydras, but Luc and I  had huge pressure on us to get our lists out, as we only returned from overseas a week or 2 out from the tournament. Also didn't have much time to play test the list either.

So lessons learned:
1. Take a tough, survivable list, grind it out rather than rely on magic and shooting.
2. Don't take a glass cannon (Morathi)
3. Draw your list up in time, play test it, play test it, play test it.
4. Don't listen to Nick.
5. If you take Hydras, take breath weapons on them.
6. The cauldron does not have leadership without the hag, without her it auto fails any leadership tests.

Game 1
Legion of Doom vs Team HAM
Druchii Civil War: Lachie Mulcahy

Almost didn't make it to this one, raced in from Kapiti to find opponent allocated, at table ready to roll.
Took some time to settle down, first game nerves, being late, no photos taken :(

Great game, friendly opponent that clearly knew all the strengths and weaknesses of the Druchii. His cold-ones outclassed my witches, which were expertly diverted. Both Morathis taken out, magic pretty even, poor rolls on winds of magic throughout game for both sides, no spectacular spells got off. Lachie's cold one knights eventually got the upper hand. Looked like it may be a close loss for a while, but then got caught by his master taking out the hag on the cauldron, with a auto leadership fail after that. (Sux, methinks, that statline! )
Witches and cauldron caught and destroyed My Druchii crumbles White-washed 20-0.

Game 2: Team Krak
Neil Williamson's Dwarfs.

One of the most fun games I have ever had against a Dwarf Army with a DE Army. Instead of a gunline with hammers Neil fielded Miners, Longbeards and Warriors, only 4 pieces of artillery, buffed up with the Anvil. Helga came as hero with one unit of Miners, arriving on turn 3. Shooting phases did not go well for him, other than taking out one Hydra. Warlocks and Morathi doing some damage, getting Okrams off twice on his unit of miners, whittling them down until only Helga remained. Valiant Bolt-thrower crews becomg an unlikely tarpit ! The witches charged through into the soft underbelly, and were surprised to see a cannon being dragged into their path as a diversion ! Thinks that's one for the books!

The last hydra gets through to the Anvil, but fails to take out the runelord, resulting in a stalemate

A most entertaining game, which eventually goes to Neil by 13-7 if I recall correctly
Thanks for a fun game, Neil!

Game 3: Team HAM
Thrown to Nick's Daemons!

Drew Nick's Daemons. 2 Skull cannons, bus of Beasts of Nurgle, 2 Units of Horrors and Lvl 4 Tzeench Wizard. This was always going to be painful for me.

Nick deploying his Daemons

The Eye opens, Daemons pouring forth

Bolt Throwers just out of charging distance of those Fiends, got a few shots in before they were annihilated

Thanks to good Ld they did not flee

Managed to kill the unit of Beasts with the Witches, but little else. Took 3 wounds of the Lvl  4 Tzeench /Keeper of Secrets w Xbowmen.  He then chose to go and hide on the furthest corner away. Skull-cannons took out Morathi and the Hydras on turn 2 and 3, and after that it really was game over for the Dark Elves. Can't even remember if I got any points out of this one. Great opponent and a fun game. How I hate those skull cannons.
Good thing Pete's now nerfed them down to 1 per army in FOB-Lite;  if you ask me.

So endeth the First Day. 1/250th the Legion of Doom not doing too well, but enjoying the tournament.

Day 2
Game 1
First up Team Buckethead: Drew Reagan Ridge's Empire.
What a great game and opponent. Had a well-matched battle with the Druchii coming out on top in the end.

Pensive looks as the Witch Elves carve their way through the Empire Knights

Before the massacre

Bolt-throwers picking off the Monstrous Cavalry, as did Doombolt,
a very useful spell from the Warlocks, before they hit the flank of the W.E's
(Here seen doing the Conga on their way to smacking the oversized Chickens.
Are those knights I see showing their heels?

Shrunken Empire heads for Khaine...

A small but sweet victory, one of the most enjoyable games of the tournament:
 game, opponent and enjoyment wise.

Day 2 Game 2
James Millington: WoC

Another hammering coming up for the DE's?
Throgg bus, with serious Lvl 4 Demon prince, Khornish nasties, Hero on Daemonic Mount and dog units, Warshrine to buff up and 3 Skullcrushers to enforce WoC rule

Shooting and magic went well, James avoided the B*tchbus for most. Killed my Hydras early in the piece. WE got into Throgg and Trollbus, nerfed them with burning banner and Morathi added Melkoths, BT poured bolts into them before they got into battle, and then fed them to the witches.
Nasty. I like. Think its the first time I've killed a Trollbus with Throgg driving.

Got into the spirit of the fight when I shouldn't have, and charged the Daemon Prince with Morathi.
Well, that's always me- taking the fight to the enemy. Should have hidden her away, and it may have been a draw. Landed a few blows, but not enough to take him out. Exit Morathi...
A possible draw went to a loss.

A great and most enjoyable game against a humorous and skilled opponent. A really fun game,
and in the end actually quite balanced, thanks to good magic rounds.

Day 3 Game 3
Wolfpack
Jeff Kent's Empire

Up against the team tipped by Pete to finish in the top 5. Can see why, some big guns from the tournament scene here. Professional outfit, friendly but focused and efficient in their gaming.
No quarter given or taken. In my game anyhow. (The way I approach surgery.)
Think the experience was the same for all our team members.

Morathi leading the conga with Lvl 2 in tow.
Mostly to try and stay out of reach of the Hellblaster cannon end Empire Great cannons.

This unfortunately also kept her out of range of the majority of her spells. Hydras negated by murderous cannon fire. Only good moment was my skewering of a rank of Monstrous chickens with my BTs, one of which seemed to have a charmed life. Clever use of terrain, bad luck w fleeing Shades obstructing my WE's movement  and a counter-charge by a very small detachment unit of Xbowmen prevented my WEs and couldron from getting into the action. Out-maneuvred and out-shot.  the game went to Jeff. A lesson in technical playing and knowledge of the rules, delivered with surgical precision.
A good game, but DE's were no match for consistently accurate cannon fire and honed rule skills. Well played game, Jeff.

Some great looking armies from the tournament:

Not sure who this belonged to, but some great lizardmen

Dark Elf Barque Progress and Sorceresses for Every Season

Progress Report WIP Dark Barque and revamp of my Druchii:

Good Progress being made with the Dark Barque. Getting to work on the woodwork.

Somehow I ended up with a surfeit of Sorceresses. 4 on foot, and 4 mounted, in fact. I can field one for every season, or lore of Magic, should I wish

Still busy transforming the Dark Eldar Wyches into (alt Sisters of Slaughter) what now can only be termed

The Band of Brutality feat Miley Cyrus:

Have resisted adding wheels to my old skool Cauldron.
Avatars of War sorceress becoming a crone or hag, up front. Apologies for my poor photographic skills. The Hawk Turquoise seems to really reflect the light in the photos, as do the skintone. Does not really do justice to the paint jobs.

The Old Death Hag and her entourage still form the core of my Witches

Also spoiled for choice with the characters. Line-up of masters and Dreadlords. Have consigned one as Tularis (Not in picture) He now resides permanently with the Black Guard (Not shown, Old Tularis model still the Tower Master in this shot) Mix of Old GW and alternative models

Dark Elf Rules Leak

The Original Carybdis
Dark Elves Rules "Leak" Info from the latest White Dwarf magazine, via Kiwihammer and Jossy:

New Releases

  • Matt Ward authored the new book
  • Largest dual kit is the Cauldron of Blood /Bloodwrack Medusa. You can also use this kit to make the special character Crone Hellebron.(Think I'll be getting this)
  • The next dual kit is Witch Elves and the Sisters of Slaughter – Sisters of Slaughter are apparently the lost daughters of fallen noble houses and look great. (Will keep my old WEs, definitely make the SoS)
  • The new DE Core box allows you to make your warriors with Spears, Swords and Shields or Repeater Cross-bows. (Bleh, don't-a'lika tha newa look)
  • The Dual Hydra/Kharibdyss kit looks pretty good, there are pictures of the Hydra with different paint schemes that actually look a lot better than the leaked photo we’ve already seen. (Will do Kharibdyss - have 2 Hydras in my Army already. Maybe they'll look less cartoony with their lips painted differently)
  • The Special Character Shadowblade  is a single pose figure that will come in a clampack (Probably won't get - have several assassin-type figures from various brands)
  • There is a Lore of Dark Magic Card set being released. (No surprises here, but the content)
  • Army Special Rules/Points Cost
  • Dark Elves now have the army-wide special rule of ASF (unsure if this will apply to monsters/cold ones. Should have had this all along. Elves, are n't they?)
  • Dark Elves also have Hatred but presumably only in the first round (What about the eternal hatred HE rule ?)
  • Black Guard have eternal hatred (Yay! - all races, I presume. DE Elites needed some sort of buff to remain competitive. What about Executioners? )
  • New Rule called murderous prowess allows Dark Elves to re-roll 1′s to wound. Unsure if this will extend to shooting and magic.(DEs will need something in the world of Monstrous cavalry, as it seems they're not getting any)
  • There is a new Beastmaster Lord Level Character which costs 300 points when naked on a Manticore (Good to see Beastmaster characters back, been missing their caste of DEs from the prev Ed)
  • Witch Elves are core and 11 points per model. They can also take magical banners.
  • A unit of 40 Spear Elves and of 30 Xbow Elves with Full command costs 390 points. Unsure what options were used but that means the warriors were 12 points per model. If you do the maths on this it means that Spears are 9ppm and Crossbows are 12.
  • A DE Sorceress Hero looks to be 80 points
  • Cauldrons of Blood still come out of Hero slots and look to have increased in points. They can join units (That's new and useful ! All units or just Khiainite units? Limits on numbers of cauldrons ? More than 1 per army? ) and one of their powers allows a unit to re-roll to wound. (ASF, Hatred and reroll wounds, stacking - Ouch! Bring on the pain!) In the Batrep a unit with a Cauldron and this buff up deletes a unit of Sobunz.
  • Bloodwrack Medusas are rare and have a shooting attack called Bloodwrack Stare. Not sure what it does
  • Hydras can now regain wounds in a manner similar to the Slann with the regen power of the old ones. They are now 180 points, have monster+handler but have to buy their breath weapon. (Can live with that)
  • Lore of Dark Magic – The attribute is called spiteful conjuration and does extra wounds to enemies that have spells cast on them. Unsure of how the mechanic works but could be similar to Tz lore attribute? (Time will tell about the rest of the magic)
  • Lore of Dark Magic – Only spell mentioned is called Word of Pain and it reduces WS/BS/I
  • A Dreadlord with Heavy Armour and a Shield on a Black Dragon costs 449 points.
  • Cold Ones are 30 points and have 2 Attacks, unsure if the cold ones themselves have ASF (They needed to be improved. Suppose they still suffer from stupidlty. Unlikely mounts and monsters will get ASF IMO)

New Dark Elf releases: Warlocks and Kraken, whole rework of army coming: Dark Elf Rumour Drums

The Dark Elf Rumour Drums are stepping up the beat: Major revamp coming

Looks like we are in for DE release in Oct. Major revamp of the DE's seem imminent

Early sightings of high-res pictures and info from " insider friends that work for GW" claim the following:

Lion275 over at Warseer :

" We can't and won't show pics unless our source gives us the ok. The pictures we have received are the high res pictures that will be in the WD. As of right now we only have the pics, no details on the book. Last time we got the pictures and then the book a little later. As soon as we get more info we will pass it on. So as far as the weapons I can only go off the pictures. Here is what I see:

Warlocks appear to have one hand weapon
The new chariot crew is armed with spears and what looks to be a large crossbow or bolt thrower on the chariot.

The new Warriors look quite different to me. But then again I am a big geek that notices stuff like that. They have cloaks that come down their back and all the helmets don't cover the eyes any more.

The warlocks are bare chested, and the weapons look mundane...aka not glowing. They look like large jagged daggers. They are held in reverse grips which looks pretty slick. The warlock champions eyes are glowing which IMO hints at some magical abilities. md as far as the warriors go I think a big difference will be the size of them. Look at the size difference between Isle of Blood Lothern Sea Guard and the normal High Elves spearman.

Im really excited to hear about a plastic hydra finally. It looks bigger and beefier. Like we said Dark Elves are setting the bar for the best range of models in WHFB.  Can you tell what size base the hydra is on?

I can't really tell from the pic. The two handlers are actually on the base so I don't have their base size to compare to. .

The cloaks hang down from underneath the shoulder armor and cover the back of the chain mail. It definitely is new for them but it looks really cool. The Druchii warriors also have shoulder armor. It makes them look simply awesome. The skull embossed on their shields looks great too. Yes the Hydra does have 2 handlers.

The Warriors, Black Guard, and Dark Riders all have cloaks. None of them appear to have face coverings. The Executioners appear to have skull faced helms. The theme to me appears to be a more sinister version of their High Elf bretheren. The plate armor has very spiked and jagged edges. The style will still fit well with the Shades and Reaper but next to these new models they will look very dated.

-The Kraken has 5 heads/fanged maws. The have spines and scales with smooth neck and belly flesh. Scales are painted a Dark Grey with the softer flesh painted blue. Looks awesome.
-The pictures we have of the Witch Elves has them with two hand weapons.
-Black Guard look very stalwart with large halberds and high helms with 3 spikes on each side with a flowing plume on top. Their armor is black trimmed in gold and they have dark purple cloaks. The unit champion is holding a sword by the hilt with the blade planted in the ground. Musician is a drummer.
-The executioners have what look like skull helms, and their armor is a brighter silver than the Black Guard. Their tunics are red in color and the Draiches are all held on the left hand side of their bodies (their left our right). They look very cool ranked up.

The Dark Riders are very cool looking. Sleek looking horses with only a bit of armor. All of the Riders are hunched over in the saddle to give the illusion of speeding fast cav. The helmets appear to be open faced and they are armed with spears in the picture I have, once again that doesn't mean they wont get crossbows (in the pictures we have they are in the back ground behind the Warlocks). The Kraken doesn't have tentacles, it has four legs with webbed appendages ending in claws and it also has a tail.

The Cauldron of Blood/Blood Throne looks very cool. If you are a fan of the newer larger models GW has been putting out for WHFB you will really dig it. It is a bit toned down compared to the Empire Celestial Hurricanum/Luminark of Hysh and has blades and hooks on it to make it very sinister and Dark Elf. I also want to say thanks for such the warm welcome. I am glad that you guys are fired up for this release. As soon as more info becomes available to us I will share it on our Facebook and post here too. I will continue to answer questions about the models to the best of my ability and thank you for being very understanding as to why we cant release the pictures sent to us."

Rumour Bells Ringing Dark Elves and 9th Ed Rules?

Dark Elves, Brettonnia or Dwarfs? Rumours abound:

I would like to believe the DE Rumour (being one of my Fave armies)

4 October 2013
September 27th (pre-orders)

Condensing my net trawlings:

Dark Elves are due in October 2013, it is said be a complete new book and not just a wave
New elite infantry kit, possibly witch elves, executioners or black guards.
(If new witch elves, there will most definitely be a new Cauldron of Blood piece)

As expected Monsters and Flyers:

- New Multi-kit Hydra / Kar Karond Beast (Sea/Land/Flying Monster)  - two variations of hydra and Sea       Drake/Beast (flyer)
- Box of 10 new plastic Witch Elves
- Box 10 new plastic Executioners / Black Guard alt builds
- New Cauldron of Blood / Altar of Khaine. (Hybrid kit with old witch Elf or aura similar to EoTG called ?      Khaines blades?  a whirlwind of magic blades emitted by Khain's hatred.
- Blister Fine Cast Priestess/Crone/Hag of Khaine
- Blister Assassin  (Shadowblade)
- Blister Dark Fleet Admiral/Corsair Hero - more than Lokhir, who has become useless w make way rule.
- Executioner /Black Guard Hero Blister
- Plastic/resin  Morathi ?
- Plastic harpy kit with two options
- dual kit chariot ?

Rules:
- Dark Magic buffs up characteristics  of characters, transformation and wound recovery spells aka 5th
Edition.(Do we see the Black Horror spell back?)
- Sacrificial Dagger;  buffs the Cauldron of Blood in units (Skaven bell type.) ( 4 + and one per phase)
- Dark Fleet Admiral Hero buffs shooting skills  of unit
- Revamp of Assassins ? Cheaper and causing terror, better rules in keeping with their intent ?
-  Ability to use poison as an option across all Khainite Units
 - Multiple wounds and killing blow for executioners and Black Guard respectively .
-  Malekith more powerful than Teclis. (Doubtful)
-  Monster of the deep-Kar Karond (Sea Drake? ) more powerful than current Hydra

- The emphsis of the book lies around Khainite units (Kharond Kar, Hag Graef and Clar Karond

So Monsters+Altar of Khaine+Khainite Units, Corsairs as focus.Dark Elves getting more destructive and poisoned attacks to cope w monstrous cavalry , many players' perception of the character each of the Elven races strengths in battle: DE - Offensive, HE -
Defensive,  WE - Guerrilla warfare .

The Elite/ heavy infantry definitely need something to help cope against the trend to Monstrous Cavalry:
Multiple wound attacks ( Execs used to do D3) and Killing Blow for Black Guard ? Thanks, that will do me just fine.

Rumours about 9th Ed?

Darkness of The Night: Dark Elves will get Empire Village Children not in bed !

The Boogeyman come to Hagerndorf...

On Anzac day the Boogeyman visited Hagerndorf, a small hamlet just outside the city walls of Hagern-Dasz, the famed Ice-cream producing town of the Empire.

A Hackseer cruise from the Dark Elf City of Tor Clairol came visiting. On board was the young Highborn Noble Frozdik Hellescorn. The youngest son of the Master of Tor Clairol, out on a quest for slaves and bounty. The Hackseer cruise was to establish himself as a corsair, in every way as cruel and unrelenting as his father.

His father, Scalpslasher Hellescorn , Master of the Tower of Clairol, personally girded him with the Armour of Darkness, and placed the throbbing haft of  the Crimson Death in his hand before he left.

He looked towards his grandmother, the Crone Hellebron, who was just boarding the sleek Family Corsair Ark, gently bobbing on the incoming tide, its prow sleek with the blood of the slaves sacrificed to Khaine to bless the journey. Her ancient frame was again filled to that of a beauty in her prime by the energy and blood that she had just spilled in the dedication ceremony. Khaine seemed to be pleased.

The Crone turned on the gangplank, looked back at her favoured son and eager grandson, who had only last week come of age. She hurried down to her state-room, followed by her retinue of Witch-elves, her eyes burning in anticipation of the further bloodshed to come.

The Master Scalpslasher watched the Corsair Ark slip into the night, and hurried back to his tower, rubbing his hands together. Fresh blood! Fresh Slaves! Fresh Scalps! Tor Clairol has grown rich on the trade in hair extensions made from the pale hair of the citizens of the Northern Empire Cities.

It seemed that the Dark Elves just could not get enough of the fashion for Slaves with fair hair, and of the hair extensions made from their freshly harvested scalps.

He looked up at the banner bearing the City's motto, snapping in the stiff breeze.
He smiled:
"Tor Clairol: Creates your locks!"

*****

Just before dawn. Shades appear out of the forest. The Empire seems asleep.

In the darkness before dawn, outside of Hagerndorf, two Shade warbands appeared at the edge of the forest. In front of them the hamlet of Hagendorf laid asleep. The lights in the watchtower had grown dim. They smirked at each other: "Easy pickings!"

They saw the Ark glide up to the silvery beach, its sails all but invisible in the dark. Dark shapes spilled out onto the sand. They could make out the Sea Dragon cloaks of the corsairs, with the young highborn strutting ahead of the formation, his magic armour glowing a dull purple in the darkness. The Old Master of Tor Clairol had not lied. There really was going to be slaughter tonight!

Druchii Ark unloading witches and Bolt-thrower

They silently watched as the Dark Elves unloaded a Repeater Bolt-thrower and a regiment of Tor Clairol Crossbowmen. The two repeater bolt-thrower druchii were bent under the weight of their giant repeater crossbow. The deftly assembled it and waited for the signal.

Last to join the assault party was two sorceresses, and a cavorting unit of Hag-witches, surrounding a Hag Queen, and what could only be the deceptively curvaceous shape of the Crone Hellebron.

Druchii Repeater Crossbows

Assaulting the Watch Tower

The Druchii party silently slid up to the base of the watch-tower. The Crone and her party headed towards the gates of Hagern-Dasz. The Level two sorceress stepped forward, eager to unleash the power of darkness on the sleeping empire forces. "Eliminate the guards in the Tower!" came the Order from the Highborn. The sorceresses called on the winds of magic. Ten! plus one for the seal of Grond! An Arc of magic fire rose from one of the sorceresses, instantly reducing WS, BS, and Int of the defenders to 1. irresistable force! Magic Feedback, and both sorceresses lay writhing on the ground, leaching a wound each

The corsairs and repeater crossbow men let fly a fury of bolts, but the stone ramparts of the tower and the extreme range protect the watchmen, and only 3 fall to the Druchii bolts. The defenders return fire, and 2 Corsairs crumple to the ground.

Meanwhile the corsairs sneak closer to the sleeping village, intent on destroying the menacing shape of a Hellblaster Volley gun parked in the middle of the square. An alarm trumpet is sounded. Lights flicker on all over the village, torches are lit in the castle. The Noble is dismayed. "We've lost the element of surprise!"

"Take the tower!" He shouted. "Use your damn magic!" He shouted at the sorceresses. "Watch your mouth, young Hellescorn! You are not the Master yet!" she sneered. 8 on the winds - I'll show him! " Pit of Shades! I'll drag them all to their Doom!" Another Arc of blue light, Nooooooo! Magic feedback again !

"It's not suppose to end this way!" She crumpled, even as she heard the screams of the tower guards being dragged down into the netherworld. The corsairs couldn't distinguish whose cries we the loudest: The Nordland defenders or those of the dying sorceress and her acolyte.

And then the Druchii had magicks no more...

Infuriated by the loss of their sorceresses the attackers scaled the tower,  hacked the defenders to pieces and stopped just short of a crazed bunch of flagellants who stormed out of the Sigmarite shrine. "The End is neigh!" crowed the prophet of doom at their head. " Too right it is!" shouted the Druchii Noble "I spit on your Sigmar! Taste Druchii Steel!"

Having cleared the Tower of guards, the Druchii attack

Handbows unleashed a rain of death on the Flagellants, but this drove them crazier still, they advanced on the Druchii like a tidal wave, flails rising and falling, smashing Druchii bodies in their path, sacrificing numbers of their own to attain greater religious  fervor.

A vain-glorious bright  wizard stumbled out of one of the hovels, and unleashed  a fireball on the Corsairs, 7 of their number burnt to cinders in seconds. The crossbow men turned him into a porcupine.

Seeing this the Warrior Priest thought it best to seek shelter in a unit of militiamen, who were charging up to support the flagellants decimating the numbers of the corsairs. "Thats it boys! Let the looneys kill most of them. I'll bolster you with my battle prayers! Don't worry!"

Empire Wizard becomes a porcupine

Ersatz Flagellants (Executioners masquerading as...) clashing with the Corsairs

Suddenly the last flagellant fell, frenzied with blood lust, the Corsairs overran into the militia. The Noble stepped out of the throng of Corsairs. His hour had come! Time to make a name for himself!

The shaft of Crimson Death glowed a dull red in his hands. His armour glistened with flagellant blood and Khaines blessings. "Who dares oppose me? I claim all the inhabitants of this village as slaves in the name of My Father, Scalpslasher Hellescorn, Master of Tor Clairol!"

The Warrior Priest stepped forward, a war hammer in each hand:
"Over my dead body! Be gone, in the Name of Sigmar! You shall take no-one here alive! "

"So be it!" Sneered the Highborn. In a movement, too fast for the Priest to even register, Crimson Death carved a red furrow across the Priest's neck, exposing the flesh to the white of the bone below.

His warhammers dropped from his lifeless hands, clattering on the ground, almost in time to the thump of his severed bald head. The head rolled across the cobbles, sightless eyes staring up at the terrified militiamen. Then the corsairs were upon them.

Reiksguard Knights, Cream of the Empire. About to get whipped

The Reiksguard knights burst from the gates of Hargen-Dasz, heading straight for the Witch-Elves, thinking them a soft target. Druchii Bolt-thrower unleashed bolts into them, as did the crossbowmen, dropping a few knights. Then they were in contact. A wisp of a girl stepped forward. "I issue a challenge!"

The Battle Standard Bearer spurred his horse forward.
"Leave this to me boys! I'll teach them to send pretty girls up against Men of the Empire! My horse will trample her into the ground. I will not even have to un-sheath my swor..."

BSB: Leave her to me, boys!

What the? Hey!
Aargh!

He stared in disbelief at the length of gleaming druchii steel that now protruded from the centre of his chest.  It had penetrated right through his armour. Then he felt the heat of poison coursing through his body.

His sword was still in its scabbard, his lance on its rest. "But, but I had a 2+ armour save...."

He felt his horse collapse beneath him. The battle standard fell into the dust from his lifeless mailed fist.
He did not hear the victorious cackle of the ancient crone's blood-lust, nor see her lick the blood from her dripping magic weapon, as she watched her witch-elves swarm all over the terrified knights.

The Crone Triumphant

Last of the Knights, fleeing from the girls

" Pretty girls indeed! ... the Brides of Khaine." She watched with satisfaction as the last remaining knight was run in from behind, and let out a satisfied howl as the little witch-elf jumped onto the back of the fleeing horse and the last knight succumbed to a flurry of poisoned stab-wounds.

" Now for their General!"  she shrieked "Find him! Khaine wants his blood! ... and I want his head!"

The Empire General finally awoke from his slumber, and rushed to join his halberdiers

The Empire General finally emerged from his billet, and raced across the square to join his halberdiers.
They all (including the General) all appeared slightly groggy. The night before they must have imbibed in too much of Bugman's Best Ale...or did the shades poison them?

A thunderclap and roll  of gun-volleys. The Empire gunners had made it to their hellblaster !

One unit of Shades was cut to shreds, but 2 shades made it into contact, the gunners falling to their swift blades. They were still crowing about their achievement when they in turn were killed by the empire archers, who had now appeared on the roof of the blacksmith. Pretty gutsy, with another unit of shades about!

Hey, you, get off my cannon!

                                                                   Destroyed!

Only 3 Corsairs standing: Noble, BSB and Champion, with flagellants
flagellating away at them, sacrificing martyrs as they go...

Crone: "The General next! Get him!"

Militaia men vaulting a wall to intercept the Shades
The Crone shrieks: "Stop them from getting to my girls!"

Empire troops  about to feel the force of the Witch Elves

Excuse me, sir, General,
Is that Death watching over your shoulder?

It appears so.

I'm getting out of here... Sexy girls or not... Too much for me.
The last militiaman standing runs for the Castle

General Dead.... In full view of his troops too.
Didn't even strike a blow. What are we to do?

Wizard and 2 militiamen, about to die.

The second group of militiamen had found courage from somewhere. Boosted by the wizard and lore of life, they stood firm against the dwindling number of corsairs, reducing their number to 3. The DE champion, BSB and Noble remained. Then there was just the nobleman;  3 on one. But what a Druchii hero!

Years of training,  and superior skill, armoura and weaponry paid off: 3 attacks, 3 dead.
The Noble surveyed the carnage. Around him lay the dead, empire and druchii alike piled knee-high.

He was the last man standing. A true Druchii, now fully blooded in battle!

Across the square he saw the final events of the battle unfold.
The Empire General made exactly the same mistake the BSB did: Underestimated the Crone.
Maybe it was pride. Maybe it was suicide.

She challenged: She stepped forward.
He stepped forward.
He went down. Never even got to raise his weapon
Never had a chance.

The Druchii Lord smirked.
...Grandma is such a bitch!

The witches were now unstoppable. 2 fell to the Empire halberds. As they went down the formed a bridge for their sisters to run across, who then rained poisoned attacks with hatred and frenzy on the startled empire soldiers. A group of militia sought to attack them from the rear, but were slaughtered short of one man by the frustrated witches in the back rank. They couldn't get in on the fun, and were only too delighted when they were charged from behind. A single Empire Militia survivor fled the battlefield.

The will to fight had now left the brave Men of the Empire.
The remaining halberdiers and archers were rounded up, along with the civilians, men and womenfolk and children of the village alike, and herded into the ark in chains.
The citizens of the  fortified town of Hagern-Dazs huddled behind fortified gates fearing that the druchii may turn their attention to them next.

The sun was red in the sky. Dawn had broken.
"It is time to leave!" Shouted the gleeful Hackseer. " Everyone to the ark! Bring the captives!"

The Crone cavorted over to the smiling young druchii nobleman.
She smeared the general's blood onto his forehead and nose.

"My Grandson! Priest-slasher Hellescorn!" she cried out.
"Khaine is well pleased! I am well pleased! Your father will be well pleased"
"Not a single hand laid on us in a challenge today!"
