TGG2 Kickstarter Finally ships: The plastic mountain to grow significantly

Aah, decisions, decisions. Having just taken possession of a Panzergranadier Bolt Action Army, Raging heroes inform me that TGG2 is ready to ship. A hill, nay, a mountain, an avalanche, of plastic heading my way! Luvvit!

So heeere we have it, time to choose those models that you backed on the kickstarted 14 months ago:

 More than 3 years in coming, from when I first saw the Dark Elf concept art.

So first off the stretch goal freebies:

16 stretch goal hero minis. Nice. 

Personally I could do without the 3 "familiars" but what the heck. 

The rest look great.

My motivation for backing this kickstarter was initially to supplement my Warhammer Dark Elf, Slaanesh Daemon and Empire forces. That was before the Warhammer world went up in a puff of smoke to be replaced by you-know what, and Slaanesh was deemed un-PC for soccer moms. 

Well, these girls will have every soccer mom choking on her Earl grey! Well, maybe not completely, but some of the models could come close to being R18 rated. 

My initial idea was to look to filling some of what I deemed lacking/boring/weaknesses in my armies at the time. Well, 9th Ed (Sorry 9th AGE) has nerfed my DE's somewhat, and I had to have a quick rethink of what I intended to order:

I was planning on building a Cult of Ulrich/Hammer-themed Empire army, with Great Hammers, rather than Greatswords. (The post on this, in fact is still sitting, awaiting completion)

So I thought I'd run with the Sisters. I already have a unit that I built for Mordheim, so this is what I went for in my choices:

Erzatz Empire/Empire of Sonstahl: 

 Daughters of the Orphanage, with command

Love this quirky standard bearer

And the musician(s)

Regular Sisters, with command

(Nothing regular about these girls, I'd say)

Sol-Sarya, Priestess of the Sun of Thorns:

Dark Elves. Could really use these nasty girls for anything. Executioners, Witches... many possibilities

Flesh Eaters, with command

Shiveriah, Sorceress

Varaseesh, the venomous:

Alternate medusa ? Again many possibilities

Yscarloth, the harvester of flesh:

Xehzirhya on demon steed

Worm riders and command

Ones I may still spend some money on:

Only didn't get these as there is no option for cross-bows on these alternative dark riders. (and had reached the limit of my pre-paid pledge of a year ago) 

I suppose adding cross-bows would not be not insurmountable. Lovely dynamic sculpts.

Nice sculpts, but no clear use for me (yet)

The ones that didn't quite crack it for me (though I liked the art concepts, but the final renditions of the models don't do it for me):

Age of Sigmar: Leaked Rules 4 page pdf

So the WH world is reeling. There is to be no 9th Ed. AoS is the new Warhammer. No more Armybooks. No more Rulebooks. Simple ruleset? Or just the starter set, with rules to follow. Wording certainly aimed at a younger (ahem...) player base. Child Friendly.

So here it is, Merry Xmas everyone (apologies to Slade)

OK. So now it is Magic/Buffs first, then movement, shooting, THEN charging, Combat and resolution. No more turns, they are called ROUNDS now. 

No indication on how armies are compiled. " According to War scrolls" 

So a fixed prescriptive army composition ahead to make it simple for entry level players?

You can still march/move at the double. Lets call in RUNNING. M+D6

Flying still there.

Rolls to hit and wound remain, resolve damage.

2 spells, Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield, Rest probably race specific.

Magic missile or Buff to saves. Simple

No points, but sudden death victories over numerically superior forces. Presumed Coup de Caput serpentis type rule (Taking the head off the snake) or it may be a sudden death taking of objective.

Terrain allowing for smaller scale tables ala 40K. Seems there are a 4 rules, bottom 3 visible in the clandestine snaps below:

So again: Simple rules per rumours has said, condensed some pages with easy and short texts (and child-friendly) language. Whether this is the basics of the new Warhammer or not time will tell, but assume it is the shape of things to come.

Rules

– There are no point values in Age of Sigmar.

– All units will be represented by warscrolls.

– If your side is severely outnumbered, there are several “Sudden Death” objective you can pick from that success will result in your victory.

– Warscrolls have all the rules for the models with them.

– New models will come with warscrolls in their boxes.

– Army books are gone.

– Bases will not matter.

– Measurement is based on closest point of the models. (So yes, a sword that thrusts well past your base is where you’ll be measuring from.)

So with mixed emotions we all wait with bated breath for what 9th Ed brings.
The anticipation is almost like Christmas, with the very real fear that we may just end up with coal in our stockings...

'Ts been months  before 9th Ed, and all through the web
Not a creature was blogging, not even a pleb;
The rumours had run dry, does anyone still care?
Feels if Fantasy Battles 9th Ed will never be here

The gamers are nestled all snug in their beds;
Elves on round bases dance through their heads;
End Times, speculation and rumours, so sick of this crap,
I’ll  just settle in for a long winter's nap.

The faithful departed to Warmachine: that’s bad
Or Star Wars X-wing, to me that is sad
The End times left us stunned and confused
GW’s marketing policies are oh so obtused

Does all the anticipation still matter,
When my Ogres, Lizards could all just go splatter ?
They squatted the Elves, my Druchii lament
What does combined stats, KFC and the Glottkin portend?

Down to my man cave I flew like a flash,
Tore open the doors and looked at my stash.
The moon on the figures like new-fallen snow,
Gave Lustria’s denizens a sad sorry glow

What else to my wondering eyes did appear,

As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
I wonder about 9th Ed and look to the sky;

To his pile of plastic models, of paints and of glue

The stump of a brush I clenched tight in my teeth,
And bent down to Flames of War, now stored underneath;
With Tigers and Panthers, with StuGs  I made merry
Painted Russians and Germans and Brits (and a dairy).

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of a harpy’s hoof ?
As I swung my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney I spotted a green Nurgle hound

Please nerf him, I thought, as hard as my Kroot
And his mates conga-lining behind him to boot;
A bundle of misery he had flung on his back,
Nurgle’s herald was just opening his sack...

The stats - how broken:  poison, challenge, regen, how scary!
Line ‘em up, smell the roses, oh look, oh how merry!
My Daemon army, at least this I know,
May still remain useful come the 9th Ed blow.

Nurgle was chubby and plump, not quite a dour Dark Elf,
But I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had everything to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Of  poisoned blogs and of rumours; then turned (what a jerk),
Pulled the finger, and blew snot out his nose,
And passing wind, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his palanquin, to his nurglings a whistle,
And tangled me quick in bramble and thistle.
As I screamed he exclaimed, ere he drove out of sight—
“There will be no 9th Edition, and F@ck you, Good night!”

The Kapiti Wargames Club fielded 2 teams: Legion of Doom and Pants Off!

Day 1: Gloves off, or was it shirts of and pants off?
After a brief kerfuffle to find a replacement player at no 99 when Rex took ill, Team Legion of Doom (LoD) arrived to take on the big guns of the NZ Warhammer world.

Roundly tipped to take the wooden spoon, as we had come close to in the preceding years, we proceeded to do battle.

Many thanks to Lockie Reid who stood in for the incapacitated Rex, ably fielding his Wood Elf army!
Hope you're feeling better, Rex! You missed a great tournament!

Not much time to do a write-up of my experience or the event (I will do it next week)
I am now hurriedly packing to go off on a school camp at the crack of sparrows tomorrow...
